Ms. Edna Elizabeth Bourgot

Mrs. Edna Elizabeth Green Bourgot, born March 5, 1927, passed away peacefully in her home in Mobile, Alabama on October 2, 2023. We had her on this earth for 96 wonderful years. She now joyously and triumphantly joins her husband, Joseph Bertrand (Bobby) Bourgot, daughter Mary Jacqueline (Jackie) Bourgot, son Robert Aurthur (Rob) Bourgot, brother Joseph (Jay) Green, sister Mary Lillian (Pee Wee) Gilliland, and parents Carey W. and Wilmer P. Green, in her final rest. She is survived by her brother Carey W. Green Jr., daughters Yvonne Bourgot Walden and Michele Ann Bourgot, son Joseph Albert Bourgot and daughters-in-law Thuy Linh Bourgot and Tiffany Lynch, granddaughters Jennifer Autumn Walden, Jacqueline Michelle Walden, grandsons Jonathan Roy Walden, Kenneth Gene Walden, Robert Joseph Bourgot, and James Austen Bourgot, nephews Brad Green, Brian Gilliland, and Carry W. Green III, nieces Karen Green, Francis Green, Barbara Green, Toni Franco Scott, Sharon Luke and other relatives on the Bourgot side of the family Mrs. Bourgot, a lifelong native of Mobile, Alabama, was born during the onset of the Great Depression. Her family was very close during this time, always supporting each other through the tough times. While attending Murphy High School she began working at Olan Mills Studio supporting the WW2 demand for portraits. She went on to work for Mobile Gas Company, where she met her husband, Bobby Bourgot. They married on June 14, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and by 1964 had five children. Tragically in 1965, Edna and Bobby lost their first born child, Jackie, and in 1968 she lost her husband and the family lost their father. Edna picked up the pieces of their lives, and set her mind to raise her family on her own. She held many jobs, overcame many obstacles, worked very hard, made many sacrifices, gained many friends, helped and inspired many colleagues, and touched the lives of all she encountered until finally retiring from the University of South Alabama Department of Orthopedics as Business Manager in 1995. She spent the rest of her life quietly and modestly in her home, inspiring and caring for her entire family, who loved her dearly till the end. Edna was many things to many people over her lifetime. A beloved sister (Baby Sis), wife (Eddy), the best mother (Mama), grandmother (Granny or Nanny), aunt (Eddy or Ish), friend, and colleague one could ever wish for, always kind and giving all of herself to others. May she rest in the peace of a life well lived, and the joy of uniting with God and those who have gone before her. Funeral services will be held at Cottage Hill Memorial Funeral Home, 7158 Cottage Hill Rd, Mobile, AL 36695, with visitation from 4-6 pm on Wednesday, October 11, and a memorial service from 10-11 am on Thursday, October 12, followed by burial at Catholic Cemetery, 1700 Martin Luther King Dr., Mobile, AL 36617.
