Mr. Gilbert Anthony Solano

Mr. Gilbert Anthony Solano, passed away on October 15th, 2024 at The Retreat Hospice Facility in Mobile, Alabama after a battle with ALS. He was surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Solano was a New Year baby, born on January 1st 1953 in Tampa, Florida. He married his sweetheart, Rebecca Hoffman on October 28th, 1972 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Mobile, Alabama. This month marks their 52nd wedding anniversary. Together, they raised a family in the community of Hollinger’s Island in Theodore, Alabama. Mr. Solano was affectionately known as Dad, Poppy, Tony or “Solano” by those who knew and loved him. Tony enjoyed his family, fishing, boating, golf, Motown music, trips to “the boats” in Biloxi and of course spoiling all six grandchildren. He supported and loved them in any way he could. He had a talent for repairing small engines and probably fixed hundreds of pieces of lawn equipment and boat motors throughout the years. Tony was the longest tenured employee at Barnett Millworks in Theodore, Alabama where he worked for over 52 years as a supervisor. He was still working at the age of 71 until the time just right before his diagnosis. He loved his co-workers and trained and mentored numerous employees, many of which became good friends. Tony was preceded in death by his parents Reinaldo and Lucille Solano of Theodore, Alabama, his brothers Vincent Solano and Paul Solano and one sister Ann Green. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Rebecca Solano, four thankful children Robin Solano, Michael (Kelly) Solano, Stacy Solano Potts and Ashley Solano, six adoring grand children Shelby Potts, Cooper McLaney, Dylan Solano, Madison Potts, Samuel Solano and Jacob Webster, one sister Patsy Davis, and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. His family and friends loved his laugh and grin. He will be missed beyond measure. The family would like to say a special Thank You to David Haigler for modifications and a beautifully constructed ramp for the home, which all helped greatly in Tony’s comfort. They are so very thankful to David and to everyone for all of the love and support.
