Mr. James Williford Adams Jr

James Williford Adams, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024 in Mobile, Alabama. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee on April 12, 1941 to James Williford Adams and Thelma Miner Adams. Jim was a graduate of Messick High School in Memphis and received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis on accounting from the University of Memphis, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. While in college, Jim became a computer programmer for Continental Baking Company in Memphis. He was a business forms designer and sales representative with UARCO Business Forms where he specialized in creating shipping and inventory labels for paper and steel industries. He lived in Mobile, Alabama for almost fifty years. Jim loved to travel and felt fortunate to have International Paper Company as his major client in the forms business, as it allowed him to visit many places over the years and to become recognized in the industry for his excellent problem- solving skills. Jim was a member of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church in Mobile for almost 50 years and often served on the Session and Diaconate. His major focus in the church was Global Missions. This enabled him to find ways to help those in need who could not help themselves, which was always important to him. He loved boating and water sports, especially at Dauphin Island, where family and friends made many happy memories over the years. His children share this love of being on the water, most likely because they were driving boats long before they could drive cars. Jim married Nancy Blythe in 1961 and they celebrated their 62nd anniversary in June of 2023. Along with his wife, Jim is survived by two children, daughter Kimberley Sigler (Kenneth) and son James Adams III (Heather) and four grandchildren: Kelsey Orsak (Daron), Collins Sigler (Jennifer), Elyse and Emily Adams. He also leaves his sister, Joan Matthews, a niece, Becky Beasley (Richard), and nephews James Matthews (Mary) and David Matthews (Nathalie). Jim was a wonderful husband and father. He was always looking for ways to make life better for his children and was quick to provide guidance and support to anyone when asked. As we celebrate his life, we will continue to be grateful for the love, wisdom and support he provided to his family and friends. There will be a celebration of life at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church on April 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spring Hill Presbyterian Church, 10 Westminster Way, Mobile, Alabama 36608, or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis.
