Mrs. Manon L Gray Boggs

With full hearts and deep sorrow, we share the passing of Manon Gray Boggs, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loyal friend, who passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on October 18, 1939, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Virgil E. and Amy L. Gray, Manon was the youngest of seven children and was raised in Mobile, where her quick wit and bold spirit took root early—and never let up. She had a feisty spirit, the heart and face of an angel, and eyes the color of clear skies—the kind of blue you don’t forget. She was sassy, sharp, and unfiltered in the very best way. With Manon, there was no need to pretend—she loved you as you were, and told it like it was. She loved to travel and had seen most of the continental U.S.—first with her bowling league (her favorite spot was Pike’s Peak, CO) and later with her husband, Jack, by her side. Married for 45 years, theirs was a love built on laughter, mutual respect, and a rock-solid bond. Jack passed just weeks before her, and we take comfort knowing she is now reunited not only with him, but also with her beloved grandson, Stephen—two of the people she missed most. Manon had a gift for making people feel at home—especially around her kitchen table. Her German chocolate cake, fried apple pies, divinity (weather permitting), coconut balls, and seafood gumbo were family-famous, and no gathering was complete without them—or without her telling someone exactly how it should be done. She had a sweet tooth like no other, and passed that down generously. She was always up for a good game—whether it was bowling in leagues during her younger years, playing cards and dominoes with her siblings and grandkids, or pressing her luck on the Cashman slots at the casino. And when it came to Alabama football, she didn’t just watch—she participated. She cheered from the stands with her son, hollered at the TV with her daughters, and let every Auburn fan in earshot know exactly where she stood with a bold, unapologetic “Roll Tide!” Manon’s faith was a quiet but steady part of her life. She began her spiritual journey at Wilson Avenue Baptist Church and carried Christ in her heart throughout her days. But above all, her greatest joy was her family. She was the kind of grandmother who’d hop on a bike herself to teach you how to ride. The kind of person you could call in the middle of the night. She made space for you to be exactly who you were, and she’d love you with everything she had. Manon is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Amy Gray; her siblings James L., Lloyd Wayne, Otis (Elsa-Mae), Virgil Jr. (Barbara), Hollis (Jo Alice), and Anne (George); her grandson Stephen Bond; her son-in-law Michael Vallette; and her husband, Jack Boggs. She is survived by her children: Rene Vallette, Clay Weldy, Amy Bailey, and Kay (Jon) Paucke; grandchildren: Brandy (Michael), Beth, Ashley, Tyler, Casey, Abbey, Brennan, and David; great-grandchildren: Tristan (Jaeda), Ethan, Rhilee, Jordan, Tatumn, Aimee, Grayson, Jack, and Amerie; great-great-granddaughter: Genesis; and the father of her children and husband of 19 years, John Weldy—a dear and constant friend, who remained family to her throughout her life. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family who adored her. A special thank you to the staff at Springhill Senior Residence for the kind and compassionate care they gave Manon in her final years. In accordance with her wishes, the family will hold a private celebration of life on April 26, 2025.
