Ms. Margaret Bates Selby

Margaret Bates Selby "Maggie" was born January 30, 1953, in Chickasaw, AL. Anyone who knew her loved her, and she loved them. Actually, her heart was so big and so caring that she loved everyone even people she didn't personally know but would hear about their story and would care and pray for them. She would help anyone but if she couldn't, she would find someone who could. She was a wild spirited, strong woman. One you will remember forever. She was a forever friend to all. She would give you her full attention, listen to you, cry with you, laugh with you and boy, would she be ready to fight for you? If you had ever told her even once when your birthday was, she would never forget it. She loved celebrating everyone's birthday, and it was always a guarantee that Maggie was going to call you that morning and sing it to you. This woman remembered everything about everyone. She referred to everyone as family. So, to her village, Chickasaw and Vigor wolves family. She talked and told stories that we just really enjoyed hearing. She still talked to many of them from the "good ole days" as she called it. Then there were all of her babies that she used to keep. She loved all of those kids and kept up with all of them over the years. And yes, she could still tell you every one of their birthdays. Then there was her Taylor Wharton family. She worked there for 20 years. She loved that job and worked hard for many hours. She really loved and cared about that whole group and still kept in touch with them and their families. She loved all of her family, especially all of her many cousins. She was so close and cared so much for all of her cousins. Then, of course, there was her home family. She was the absolute best mother and Granny but also best friend to her daughter LaShea and grandchildren Matthew (Gracie) Collins, Daityn Collins, Brantley Bundick and Breannu Collins. A sister/best lifelong friend to Sheila Burson Pitts, and lifelong friend Marlene Hoefer Brummond. She was the very proud Aunt of Tiffani (Steve) Wilkins, Crystal (Earl) Baldwin Kevin (Amy) Towery, and Monica Bates. And an even prouder Great Aunt to Sydni (Justin) Booker, Luke Wilkins Connor Daw, and Erin and Makenzie Towery. She will be missed by so many she was definitely a one of a kind and there will never be another quite like her. Maggie left this world on July 21, 2023, to be with Jesus and her "grow up family" as she called them. Her daddy, Herman Willard Bates "Jack", Mother Margaret Louise Bates, her brothers Jack Jr. and John Wayne Bates. Along with many other family members and friends. Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”
