Mrs. Mary Louise Fendley

Mary Louise Fendley (née Davis), passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2024, at The Retreat Hospice in Mobile, Alabama at the age of 91. She was born January 6, 1933, in Gilbertown, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her husband, Iman Ashley Fendley; her parents, Velma Davis Thompson and Judson Erville Davis; her siblings, Judson Davis, Charles Davis, and Diane Newton (née Davis); and her grandson Chad Ryals. She is survived by seven remaining siblings, Carol Lisenby (née Davis), Hollis Davis, John Davis, Colan Davis, Jerry Davis, Dixie Hoven (née Davis), and Randy Davis; three children, Michael Ashley Fendley, Karen Ruth Ryals (née Fendley), and Larry Keith Fendley; five grandchildren Ashley Bosarge (née Fendley), Paula Fendley, Mary Heather Baum (née Ryals), James Ryals, and Megan Weaver (née Fendley); and six great grandchildren, Carter Baum, Foster Baum, Jacob Weaver, Annabelle Weaver, Isaac Weaver, and Brandon Weaver. Louise graduated from Providence Hospital nursing school as a registered nurse in 1953. She then married her husband, Tech Sargent Iman Ashley Fendley, United States Air Force. During their five-year marriage they traveled with the Air Force, but Iman passed away in 1958 when the USAF airplane he was on crashed into a mountain in Antarctica. To this day there remains a glacier in Antarctica called Fendley Glacier. Louise and her three children settled back in Mobile, Alabama. She continued her career in nursing at Providence Hospital for 35 years before she retired. One to never sit still, Louise only took one month off after retirement before becoming a volunteer back at Providence Hospital in outpatient services. She was also a volunteer in the office at Dodge Elementary School, delivered meals on wheels for Cottage Hill Baptist Church, and volunteered in the church nursery once a month for more than 30 years. She enjoyed bowling and belonged to a bowling league since 1963, once bowling and impressive score of 232. As if this were not enough, she sang in church choir at Cottage Hill Baptist Church and enjoy traveling to many places around the world. She used her artistic skills in quilting, knitting, sewing, and beadwork to create many gifts for family and friends. Louise also loved animals and had many pets over the years, but she had a particular fondness for cats. Louise touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to join in on a celebration of her life on August 6, 2024, 4:00 p.m. with a service at 6:00 p.m., at Cottage Hill Memorial Funeral Home, 7158 Cottage Hill Road, Mobile, Alabama, to share memories, reminisce, and support the family.
