Mayo Irving Blackmon, Jr., affectionately known as "Buddy," 74, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 12, 1951, Buddy lived a life marked by adventure, determination, and an unwavering appreciation for the people and pursuits he loved. As a young man, he began his career in the Las Vegas casino industry, where he developed a lifelong passion for poker and a deep appreciation for the friendships and excitement found around the card table. Later in life, he transitioned into the insurance industry, where he built a successful career through his knowledge, integrity, and strong work ethic. Buddy's love of the outdoors was instilled in him by his father, Mayo Blackmon, Sr., at an early age and remained one of the defining joys of his life. Whether casting a line, spending a quiet day on the water, or simply enjoying nature, he found peace outdoors and took every opportunity to share that passion with family and friends. For Buddy, there were few things better than a day on the water, a fishing rod in hand, and good company nearby. Buddy was also a devoted dog lover, and the companionship of his dogs brought him immeasurable happiness throughout the years. Those who knew Buddy will remember his sharp wit, strong sense of independence, and unmistakable authenticity. He never felt the need to follow the crowd, choosing instead to live in a way that reflected who he was and what mattered most to him. Whether at the poker table, on the water, or with those closest to him, Buddy approached life with confidence and conviction. His legacy is one of resilience, generosity, laughter, and countless memories that will continue to be cherished by all who knew him. Buddy is survived by his loving partner, Cynthia Montecalvo; his son, Mayo Blackmon III; his daughters, Stephanie Blackmon and Brandi Letson; and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him. He was preceded in death by his father, Mayo Blackmon, Sr., and his mother, Barbara Stell Bourgeois. In accordance with his wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to a charity or organization dedicated to introducing children to fishing and the outdoors, honoring Buddy's lifelong love of fishing and his hope that future generations experience the same joy.
