Ola Gennette Johnson

Mrs. Ola Gennette Sprinkle Johnson, 78, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 23, 2026, with her beloved husband of 57 years, Dennis Lee Johnson, by her side. Born on May 29, 1948, in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late George and Esther (Cox) Sprinkle. She graduated from Alba High School before dedicating her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse, faithfully serving others throughout her career before retiring. On June 9, 1969, she married the love of her life, Dennis Lee Johnson. Together they built a marriage firmly rooted in faith, love, and service. Side by side, they devoted their lives to serving the Lord through The Church of God, faithfully ministering to others for more than five decades. Their lives reflected a shared commitment to loving God, loving people, and quietly serving wherever they were needed. Mrs. Johnson faithfully served as a pastor’s wife, Sunday School teacher, gifted singer, and devoted servant of the Lord. She loved reading God’s Word, spending time in prayer, and encouraging others by the example of the life she lived. One of her greatest joys was singing alongside her husband, especially their beloved hymn, I Want to Stroll Over Heaven with You, a song that beautifully reflected the hope and faith they shared throughout their lives together. Whether she was teaching a Sunday School lesson, singing a gospel hymn, reading her Bible, or simply spending time with those she loved, Mrs. Johnson’s life reflected the quiet and steadfast faith that guided her every day. Her greatest ministry was not only found in the church she faithfully served, but also in the home she lovingly built. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother to Tony, Michael, and Tonya. Although Tonya preceded her in death, a mother’s love never fades, and she carried her daughter in her heart always. She was also a cherished grandmother, treasured great-grandmother, and faithful friend whose love and quiet strength shaped generations. Mrs. Johnson also found joy in life’s simple blessings. She was an avid reader who could finish several books each week on her Kindle and always kept it close by. She especially loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, faithfully testing her knowledge right along with the contestants. Sunday afternoons were among her favorite times. After attending church and sharing lunch with family, everyone would gather back at the house for fellowship and spirited games of Phase 10. Those afternoons filled with laughter, friendly competition, and precious time together became some of the family’s most treasured memories. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Tonya Johnson Witty; and her siblings, Myrtle Stewart, William “Hank” Sprinkle, and Hilda Felix. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Dennis Lee Johnson; her sons, Anthony “Tony” Johnson, Sr. and wife Jennifer, and Michael Johnson and wife Staci; her grandchildren, Anthony Johnson, Jr.; Michayla Johnson Stephens and husband Michael; Jody Miller and wife Skylar; Noah Johnson; and Andrew Witty; her great-grandchildren, Damon Gonzalez and Jaxston Miller; her siblings, David Sprinkle and Rhoada Barber; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, lifelong friends, and her cherished church family. Mrs. Johnson’s life was a beautiful testimony of unwavering faith, humble service, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, yet her family finds peace in knowing the faith she lived each day has now become her eternal joy. Her legacy will continue through her family, her church, and the countless lives she touched with her steadfast devotion to the Lord. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Cottage Hill Funeral Home, 7158 Cottage Hill Road, Mobile, Alabama. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Bayou La Batre, Alabama. Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to gather for lunch and fellowship at Bayou Grill in Bayou La Batre.
