Richard Barry Schomer

Richard Schomer, 81, passed away on April 25, 2026. Born on June 5, 1944, Richard lived a long and meaningful life marked by hard work, service, love for his family, and deep care for those around him. He is now at peace with his Heavenly Father. Richard will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, mentor, patriot, veteran, and man of faith. He often prayed for God’s protection and grace over his family and friends, a reflection of the care and love he carried for them throughout his life. He was a lifelong learner with a sharp mind and a strong work ethic. Richard attended Cleveland State University and later earned a master’s degree in engineering from Baldwin Wallace University in 1984. His life and career reflected both his intelligence and his dedication. Before attending college, he served in the United States Air Force, where he worked as a mechanic on the F-106. In the 1970s, he worked with solar panels, exploring innovative ideas ahead of their time. He later transitioned into manufacturing, which led to a career in furniture manufacturing through the 1990s. In the 2000s, he moved into a semi-retired season of life, working at Home Depot while also volunteering to help veterans in need. Supporting veterans, especially those experiencing homelessness, was a cause that meant a great deal to him. Later in life, he also worked at Wawa, where he found joy in the work and was loved and adored by those around him. Richard loved music, warm weather, and time spent near the beach. He was always thinking, learning, and looking toward the next project. He will be remembered for his intellect, his dependability, his quiet strength, and the love he had for his family. Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Shannon Schomer; his five children, James Schomer, Bill Schomer, Shelley Likes, Marika Serhane, and Rick Schomer; and 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, James Schomer; his mother, Elaine Schomer; and his three brothers, Freddie Schomer, Ron Schomer, and Ken Schomer. In accordance with his wishes, no public memorial service will be held. A private family service will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Richard’s memory to support veterans in need.
