Mrs. Annie June Cook

Annie June Butler Cook was born on April 4, 1942 and passed away March 26, 2025, just a few days shy of her 83rd birthday. Her fiery personality and sense humor are what her loved ones will remember most about her. You also can’t think of her without remembering her striking beauty in her younger days. She could reminisce about what it was like growing up in the 40’s and 50’s, and she shared many fond memories of her parents, siblings, and cousins from her early years. She experienced the tragedy of losing her first husband to death at a young age when they had two young daughters. She pressed through, married again, and the family grew. She raised five children who honor her memory today. She lost her second husband two years ago. She has many grands, great-grands and even a great-great-grand. She will always be “Nanna B” to them all. When family would gather at her home, there would always be a roar of laughter, and she was always carrying on with everyone in the fun. She was sassy as could be, but it was coupled with love and kindness throughout her life… although you never wanted to see her coming at you with a switch! She had hobbies and talents throughout her years. She made and gifted many gorgeous quilts, which are scattered throughout Mobile and the rest of country! Painting was another one of her talents. She had a distinct style with black silhouettes and vivid colors. Her pieces were unique and eye catching! She was thankful that she had her faculties and was able to live in her own home and provide most of her own daily care up until the last week of her life. Sadly, she fell, broke her hip, and passed within a few days after the accident. She was not without shortcomings and challenges. There were hard times in many areas of family life. In the last few years, she mentioned on several occasions that she has made things right with the Lord, asked God to forgive her of her sins, and asked Jesus to save her. Near the end, she told her family she was ready to go. Hopefully, she didn’t hold it against her daughters who were caring for her at the end, much to her displeasure. She told them, “I’m going to whip your butts when we get home!” That’s the spunky Nanna B we will always remember and love.
