Doris Marie Hubiak

Doris Marie Hubiak, age 92, of Mobile, Alabama, entered eternal rest on August 13, 2026, in her home surrounded by family and friends. Leaving behind a lifetime of love, faith, hard work, and cherished memories. Born on October 31, 1933, in Mobile, Alabama to Henry Louis and Mary Ethel Smith. Doris was a woman of deep and abiding Catholic faith and a devoted parishioner of St. Dominic Parish. She attended St. Matthew’s Catholic School, later graduated from McGill-Toolin Catholic High School and attended the University of South Alabama. She was the cherished mother of Karen Darcel Nelson and Carl Wayne Nelson. She poured her heart into guiding her children in the Catholic faith and nurturing her family with unconditional love. Later in life, Doris found a subsequent great blessing and was united in marriage to her beloved husband Frank Hubiak, with whom she shared 42 wonderful years of companionship, support and shared parish life. Doris was the most wonderful, devoted wife and mother. Her family was the center of her life, and she took great pride and joy in the generations that followed. Doris was a hardworking and dedicated woman. She retired after 22 years of service from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Operations Division, Regulatory Permit Branch as an Automation Clerk/Administrative Assistant. She earned the respect of those who knew her through her strong work ethic, commitment, and dependability. After retirement, she served as a member of NARFE Organization Chapter 318. She also worked for US Customs and Border Protection, Engineering Services, Pinkerton Security and was employed as a nurse at Monson State Hospital. Her family brought her tremendous happiness, and she treasured the time she spent with each of them. Doris was known for her kind and loving heart and devotion to her family. She had a warmth that made people feel welcome, and her generosity and compassion extended not only to her family and friends but to unfamiliar people in the community. Doris often shared a cappuccino and meal with new faces, and they would shortly become part of her family. She was an especially devoted animal lover/rescuer, with a particular fondness for felines and raccoons. She enjoyed competitive roller skating, summer beach days, deer hunting, and playing cards. She is survived by her husband: Frank Hubiak, her two children: Karen Darcel Nelson and Carl Wayne Nelson (Regina), her nine cherished grandchildren: Denis Emanuel Duran Jr., Carla Nelson Ford (Lee), Richard Joshua Porter (Allison), Doran Richelle Byers (Jimmy), Tiffany Steber (Joseph), Jacob Lovitt, Mary Chapman (Jamie), Allison Winslett (Brionna), and Emma Holcombe, eight blessed great- grandchildren: Erik Duran, Caylen Bray, Evan Ford, Jesse Porter, Bri Sherwin, Bentley Chapman, Beckham Chapman, and Finn Winslett, and her nephews/nieces: Glen Elam, Craig Elam, Shawnee Waddell, and Sue Siebert (Jackie), and many extended family members and loved ones, who will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry Louis and Mary Ethel Smith: her brothers: Edward Derham, Arthur Roland Smith, Harry Lewis Smith; her sisters: Josephine Smith, Ruth Siebert, and Clara Bow McMorris. Doris’s life was a beautiful example of faith, family, compassion, perseverance, and love. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her infectious smile, her love for family, friends and animals, and the countless ways she touched the lives of those around her. Though her family will deeply miss her, they can take comfort in knowing that Doris is now at peace in the loving presence of her Lord and Savior. May she be welcomed into eternal life, reunited with those who went before her, and forever held in God’s loving arms.
