Mary Elizabeth Wisen Davis

Mary Elizabeth Wisen Davis died peacefully on January 23, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born August 24, 1945 in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and grew up there graduating from Fletcher High School in 1963 where she was captain of the cheerleading squad and voted “Best All Around”. She attended Jacksonville University in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and then transferred to Florida State University in Tallahassee where she received her BS in Nursing. At FSU she met her loving husband of 58 years, John Vickery Davis. They married in 1967 and spent the next 10 years living and traveling in several places while Vick served in the Air Force. Eventually they moved to Panama City, Florida where they spent the next 40 years raising a family there. Mary spent many years as a nurse working in hospitals, as an oncology nurse, and for various physicians. Mary always had a gift of selflessness and a soft and caring heart. In 2016 they moved to Mobile, Alabama to be closer to her daughter and family. Mary was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Panama City, Florida. She taught 4 th grade Sunday school for over 25 years and volunteered with numerous church projects as well as with Meals on Wheels and served faithfully in ministry to visiting home bound church members at Spring Hill Baptist Church. Mary loved cooking, quilting, and gardening and had a remarkable green thumb. What Mary loved the most was talking to her children and grandchildren who she loved unconditionally and lavishly. To know Mary was to know kindness. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Milan Edward Wisen and Ethel Palmer Wisen. Mary is survived by her husband Vick and two children, John Milan Davis (Heidi), and Teresa “Terri” Davis Gaal (Richard). Additionally, Mary is survived by her 5 grandchildren: Grant Palmer Davis and Kelsey Grace Davis of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Edward Warren Gaal (Caroline), Richard Thomas Gaal and John Stephen Gaal of Mobile, Alabama, her brothers, Larry Edward Wisen (Sandy) and Donald Ralph Wisen (Georgi) and many nieces, nephews and family members. Visitation to be held at Spring Hill Baptist Church (2 South McGregor Avenue 36608) on January 31, 2026, at 10:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to McKemie Place, Mobile, Alabama.
