Mr. Richard Abell Young

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Richard Abell Young on August 9, 2025. Richie was born June 23, 1957, in Mobile, Alabama, to the late Raymond and Mary Abell Young. Richie was raised in St. Pius Catholic Church and graduated from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in 1975. He attended the University of South Alabama where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and was a proud member of Sigma Chi. Richie was previously married to Cindy Clements Young, with whom he shares three children. They raised their children in Mobile and spent countless hours at band concerts, swim meets, school functions, and ballparks. Richie worked with UPS and Mobile Gas Company before retiring in 2012. Richie was truly blessed to have spent the last several years of his life with his caring and devoted wife, Sue Ellen Tribe. His final years were made all the more meaningful by her joyful spirit and unwavering love. Richie cherished splitting their time between the mountains of Tennessee and the beaches of Alabama. Richie appreciated nature and would spend hours sitting on a porch with a cup of coffee watching wild life. He especially loved hummingbirds. Richie’s greatest quality was his infinite and unconditional love for his family. Richie was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved to joke and laugh, so much so that his grandchildren affectionately called him CooCoo. He never took anything too seriously, except for Alabama football. He loved loud music, always saw the best in people, made the most of any experience, led with peace and understanding, and treasured every single day. Richie is survived by his wife, Sue Ellen Tribe, children Austin (Ellen) Young, Alexandra Young (Evan Schmelzle), and Jordan Young, and his three grandchildren Haley Noelle, Andrew O’Keefe, and Arthur Nykoluk. Richie is also survived by his four younger siblings, Lane (Tommy) Fulton, Ray (Angel) Young, Jennifer Young, and Leigh (Steve) McCarthy, 12 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. Richie was fully embraced by Sue’s family after they fell in love. Richie adored this “family by heart,” including children Bryan Tribe, Bryce (Tiffany) Tribe, Brandi Tribe, Kelly (Mike) Heflin, grandchildren Treavor (Brittany Herman) Tribe, Izabella Tribe, Kirk Steele, Sadie Tribe, Mollie Tribe, Josie Tribe, Hannah (Link) Moore, Krista Heflin, Micah Heflin, and great grandchildren Khylan Dixon, Charliegh Ann Moore, and Cohen Moore. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 11:30am, a saying of the rosary at 12:30pm, followed by Mass at 1:00pm.
